As the summer heat intensifies, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating soaring temperatures and potential rainfall in various regions. According to Dr. Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at IMD, Delhi is projected to maintain temperatures around 38 degrees Celsius over the next 2-3 days, with a chance of light rain on Monday. Eastern India, on the other hand, faces the looming threat of temperatures reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius within the next 4-5 days.

Dr. Kumar highlighted the prevailing heatwave situation in East India, particularly in West Bengal, where a red alert has been issued due to temperatures soaring 6.5 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal levels. While a slight temperature drop is anticipated in the coming days, an orange alert remains in effect for the next 4 days. Similar alerts have been issued for Odisha, where temperatures are expected to decrease temporarily before resuming heatwave conditions.

The forecast extends to Bihar, where heatwave conditions are anticipated for the next 5 days, along with heightened temperatures during the night and morning hours. In Jharkhand, the possibility of a heatwave looms as well. Conversely, South Peninsular India is not facing a heatwave scenario, but warnings for “Hot and Humid” conditions have been issued for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, with temperatures exceeding normal levels.

Heatwaves pose significant risks to human health, with conditions becoming potentially fatal when exposed to high temperatures. IMD’s warnings are crucial for public awareness and preparedness as regions brace for the impact of extreme weather conditions.
